The Chronicles of Storage Land
In the heart of town, where the rents run steep,
Lies a storage kingdom, where secrets sleep.
Metal doors stretch as far as you can see,
Each holding tales of mystery.
There’s Donna, who comes every Friday at four,
To add more shoes—though she owns twenty more.
She swears they’re for “future occasions,” she’ll say,
But she’s running a marathon of eBay.
Old Ted in Unit 9A stacks his bins,
With trophies from when he “used to win.”
Bowling, darts, and even karaoke,
The trophies? Tiny. The pride? Oh, so hokey.
Unit 12 houses a drummer named Max,
Who’s “just on pause” with his platinum tracks.
He stores his kit, his dreams, his band’s old gear,
And blames the industry—never the beer.
Stanley and Lenny, the Manager’s pride,
Two Jack Russells who patrol far and wide.
They sniff every box, inspect every nook,
And greet every renter with a judgemental look.
They’ve chewed up the labels and rearranged keys,
And once locked the Manager out (with ease).
But when it’s quiet, they nap in a chair,
Dreaming of biscuits and treats they’ll “confiscate” there.
And who could forget Miss Clara from Unit 2?
Her “rare art collection” is just cats on glue.
She swears it’ll fetch her a millionaire’s price,
But for now, they’re just nesting among bags of rice.
Then there’s the newlywed couple in Unit 18,
Storing wedding gifts they’ve barely seen.
Blenders and toasters they’ll never unbox,
But they did keep the His-and-Hers socks.
Late at night, when the lights flicker low,
The halls come alive with a spectral glow.
The ghost of lost keys rattles and clinks,
While an abandoned doll winks—or does it just blink?
The storage staff? Saints of a special kind,
Wrangling chaos with a patient mind.
“Your code’s expired.” “Your rent’s overdue.”
But they still smile and say, “How can I help you?”
So here’s to the kingdom of forgotten things,
Of old guitars and engagement rings.
Where dreams are boxed and futures are stored,
And life unfolds in a maze of hoards.
“Sometimes the smallest things take up the most room in your heart”
